Yr Hen Lyfrgell · The Old Library
I contributed ideas and visual mockups for the visual identity of The Old Library during the project’s earliest stages. The project aimed to transform a Grade II-listed Carnegie-style library into a creative digital hub for Welsh businesses, organisations, and individuals working in the creative sector. Although the visual identity would eventually move into a different direction, with the steering group developing a vision that they believed better fit the project, it was still a great project to work on.
The brief focused on words such as ‘architectural’, ‘heritage’ and ‘legacy’, while also needing to feel ‘modern’ and ‘dynamic’ - finding the right balance between those ideas was a challenge, but also what made it exciting to work on.
The logo I developed reimagined the building’s distinctive Carnegie architecture as a clean, stylised crest. It drew from features such as the building’s bell tower, arched windows, and traditional frontage to reflect the building’s transformation from a historic library into a forward-looking hub for Wales’ creative industries.
